This Master Composter Community Education Program is a Texas program so the organizers will only be able to certify participants who take the curriculum in Texas. However, anyone may attend one of the free, online introduction webinars to learn more about the Texas program (and explore how such a program might be adapted to our needs and capabilities here in Oklahoma).
There have been Master Composter programs in Oklahoma in the past, but I don’t believe any are active at this time.
The free webinars are on May 13 & June 3 (more info below).

Learn How to Start a Backyard Composting Program in Your Community!
What is Master Composter?
Master Composter is a community-based program of citizen education and volunteer development to promote cost-effective and environmentally responsible yard-care practices, with backyard composting as its main focus. The State of Texas Alliance for Recycling (STAR)<http://t.e2ma.net/click/dtj9f/952xc/pe8f6b> now serves as the statewide administrator for this program, and we provide training opportunities, curriculum, resources, and technical assistance to communities wanting to host Master Composter trainings in their area.
Why compost?
The benefits from Master Composter spread beyond each person's yard. Composting decreases the amount of organic material we send to local landfills, and compost application minimizes urban runoff, decreases soil erosion, and helps conserve water - all while feeding your garden or lawn with nutrient-rich material!
Here's how to start composting in your community!
STAR is partnering with Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) to provide introductory webinars and a community coordinator orientation over the next two months. A free, one-hour "Introduction to the Master Composter Program" webinar will be offered on both May 13th and June 3rd at 11 a.m. (this is the same webinar but we're offering two dates to make scheduling easier). Register now for the May 13th webinar using this link<http://t.e2ma.net/click/dtj9f/952xc/568f6b> and for the June 3rd webinar using this link<http://t.e2ma.net/click/dtj9f/952xc/lz9f6b>.
STAR is also hosting a Local Community Coordinator Orientation at the KTB Annual Conference on Sunday, June 22nd from 12:30-5:30 p.m. in the Bosque Room at the Renaissance Hotel in Austin. The cost for the workshop is $20 and will cover workshop materials and light snacks. Prior attendance on one of the introductory webinars is required, and the registration link for the orientation will be sent out to webinar attendees after each session. This orientation will give municipalities, KTB affiliates, and other nonprofit groups the tools they will need to start hosting Master Composter trainings in their community!
For questions about the webinars, the orientation, or the Master Composter program, please contact Sara Nichols at STAR<mailto:snichols at recyclingstar.org?subject=>. We look forward to getting Master Composter in as many communities across Texas as we can!
