Dear Colleagues in Recycling and Sustainability:

Call2Recycle(r), North America's most successful battery collection program, presents our 2013 annual report. We continue our commitment to the practice of product stewardship and have focused on balancing the priorities of all our stakeholders by building industry partnerships, educating consumers and businesses and identifying new ways to keep waste out of the landfills.  As Call2Recycle enters its 20th year anniversary, we celebrated 17 consecutive years of year-over-year increases (since collections began in 1996) in the volume of batteries collected and recycled across North America. Since 1996, Call2Recycle has collected over 85 million pounds (39 million kilograms) of batteries, and we look forward to another year of growth with the help of our partners and the public.


  *   In 2013, collections increased 12.6% over 2012, diverting 11.6 million pounds (5.3 million kilograms) of batteries from landfills
  *   Accessibility is a driving force behind steady collection growth - 89% of Americans live within 10 miles (15 kilometers for Canadians) of a collection location
  *   Battery collections in California topped more than 1 million pounds (453,592 kilograms) for the 2nd straight year
  *   Collections in Canada skyrocketed with a 43% increase over 2012 collections, and the largest amount collected since 1997 with 1.9 million kilograms (4.2 million pounds) of batteries collected
