OKLAHOMA CITY (May 2, 2011) - State Reps. Seneca Scott and Jabar Shumate
said the recent unveiling of Tulsa Recycle and Transfer's (TRT) new $5
million investment in North Tulsa and the creation of nearly 40 jobs
shows the economy of North Tulsa is on the right track.
"Tulsa Recycle and Transfer's new investment builds on other recent
successes, such as when Taylor Industries, located in Turley's Vann
Industrial Park, enrolled in the state's Quality Jobs Act and promised
to create 98 new energy manufacturing jobs this area," said Scott,
D-Tulsa. "I'm thrilled to see these innovative solutions for handling
trash which result in new environmental jobs for the people of my
district."
"By creating so many new jobs in our community, Tulsa Recycle and
Transfer is providing a huge boost to the local economy and increased
opportunity for the citizens of North Tulsa," said Shumate, D-Tulsa.
"The company and its leaders are to be commended for providing the
opportunity for so many people to begin climbing the economic ladder."
Tulsa Recycle and Transfer (TRT) is opening a Materials Recovery
Facility (MRF), a specialized plant for reclaiming recyclables from
trash and reducing its impact on the environment.
Officials predict the new MRF technology could increase recycling rates
for TRT by 35 to 40 percent.
The new new TRT facility builds on success of Taylor Industries, which
makes oil and gas work-over rigs.
"These energy and environmental jobs are key for new investments in
Tulsa, plus last year we brought 40 jobs in with Darby Equipment,
located near the new Tulsa Community College Northeast Campus home of
the new Center for Energy Excellence and Innovation," Scott noted.
In addition to the environmental pluses, officials expect the MRF
facility to help spur economic growth in Tulsa by adding 25 to 35 new
jobs initially, with the possibility of even more jobs once a second
shift is added on.
TRT's new MRF is located at 1150 N. Peoria in a new facility with
concrete access to a fully enclosed weather proof building, providing
easy access for people to drop off waste. The convenient location in the
downtown area saves the customer time and fuel over driving to the
landfills on the outskirts of the city. TRT accepts newspapers,
cardboard, aluminum, tin/steel, and plastic at their transfer location.
Hours for drop off are 6 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday and 7 am to 3
pm on Saturdays.
