Franklin County Solid Waste District</a> manages four municipal organics drop-off programs at transfer stations for collection of food scraps and soiled paper. The District also provides support for the commercial collection of food scraps and soiled paper
from restaurants in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts and provides technical assistance for organics composting at schools and special events.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The <a href="http://www.niswmd.org/index.htm">Northeast Indiana Solid Waste Management District</a><span class="MsoHyperlink"> (NISWMD)</span> is comprised of four predominantly rural counties. Through a system of five staffed drop-off
centers, the District provides a comprehensive approach for managing and processing yard trimmings and brush, bringing economies of scale to benefit its member counties and residents. The finished compost is screened to create a high demand compost product.

<p class="MsoNormal"><a href="http://www.discovernorthwood.com/">Northwood</a>, North Dakota was struck by a tornado (rated EF4) on August 26, 2007 causing extensive destruction throughout the town and killing one person. Based upon the experiences of Northwood
and other communities hit by disasters in North Dakota, the State Department of Health, Division of Waste Management developed a number of guidelines to assist communities in the disaster recovery process.<o:p></o:p></p>

Food Too Good to Waste</a> was started as a way to assist households in reducing food waste. The “Toolkit to Reduce Household Food Waste” can be customized and used by any interested local government, Tribal entity, or community group. The toolkit demonstrates
how to reduce wasteful household food consumption by focusing on social marketing incentives and messages directed at individuals within targeted communities.

<p class="MsoNormal">The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community launched its <a href="http://www.smscorganicrecycling.com/">
Organics Recycling Facility</a> in 2011. The facility accepts all organic materials including, brush, food scraps, manure, and paper waste. The operation has a 100,000 ton capacity and composted 46,000 tons source separated organics in 2013. Its proximity
to the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area has proven to be a positive business investment for the Tribe which charges tip fees for disposal and produces a range of compost and compost blends for retail and wholesale.
