Recycling Infrastructure and Education and Outreach

When: June 14th, 11:00am – 12:30pm ET

This session will cover the following EPA funding programs that are
currently under development:

   - Solid Waste Infrastructure and Recycling Grants - $275,000,000 ($55
million nationally/yr. from FY22-26), which supports improvements to
post-consumer materials management, including municipal recycling programs,
and assists waste management authorities in making improvements to waste
   management systems.

   - Recycling Education and Outreach Grants - $75,000,000 ($15 million
nationally/yr. from FY22-26), focused on improving materials recycling,
recovery, management, and reduction. EPA is also directed to develop a
model recycling program toolkit for States, Tribes, and local governments.

EPA is seeking feedback on:

   - Infrastructure Needs and Priorities: What are your top needs and
challenges related to solid waste management and recycling infrastructure?
What projects or activities should EPA consider eligible for funding as
part of the infrastructure grant program?

   - Education and Outreach Needs and Priorities: What limitations are you
experiencing in administering effective recycling education and outreach
program? What are your most needed educational resources?

   - Data and Measurement Needs: What data points or indicators are you
currently using to measure recycling program and/or recycling education and
outreach success? What would be your ideal measure(s) of program success,
and what would you need to collect and use these data?

Notetakers will record the session feedback. If you are not able to attend,
you can provide written feedback. For additional information, visit:

Battery Labelling and Collection

When: Wednesday, June 15th from 1:30 PM. – 3:00 PM Eastern Time

This session will cover two EPA initiatives under development:

Battery collection best practices that are feasible for tribal, state, and
local governments, environmentally sound for waste management workers, and
increase the recovery of critical minerals.

Battery labeling guidelines to improve battery collection including by:

    • Identifying collection locations,

    • promoting consumer education about battery collection and recycling,
and

    • reducing the improper disposal of batteries and associated fires.

EPA is seeking feedback on:

   - What types of batteries should EPA include in the best practices for
collection (e.g., small consumer batteries, electric vehicle and grid
   storage batteries, industrial batteries, etc.)?
   - What are the current barriers to safe and effective battery collection
   and recycling?
   - What practices exist to improve battery collection and recycling,
especially to increase the safe recovery of critical minerals?
   - What types of communication and outreach activities are most useful to
   reach key battery stakeholders?
   - What existing labeling programs should EPA use to inform a new
   labeling program?

Who should attend?

The session is open to all stakeholders involved in the battery lifecycle,
including:

   - battery manufacturers,
   - battery retailers,
   - battery recyclers,
   - consumers and businesses that purchase batteries,
   - companies in the electric vehicle management chain, and
   - tribal, state, and local government agencies.

Why should I attend? Participants will have the opportunity to inform EPA’s
development of best practices and guidelines for end-of-life battery
collection and labeling.
