Hello everyone--

Please share this email with colleagues and friends who you think will be interested.

It is our great pleasure to announce that the Green Country Sustainability Forum is hosting a Low Impact Development (LID) Design Competition<http://lidcompetition.okstate.edu/>!

The competition is scheduled to begin on November 14, with the finals event tentatively scheduled for April 3, 2014. The objectives of the competition include:

* Provide a hands-on learning experience through which design, construction and development professionals in the Green Country area will gain meaningful experience in working with Low Impact Development methodologies that can be applied to their everyday practices.

* Demonstrate to local design professionals, real estate developers, civic groups, and the general public the economic, environmental and marketing benefits that are available to entities that adopt and innovate with respect to sustainable site development.

* Identify and attempt to remove potential barriers to the implementation of low impact development techniques in the area, while illustrating practicality by showing what is feasible.

* Encourage through the body of work represented by the entries submitted, greater use of these beneficial techniques for sustainable development in our area and highlight local incentives where applicable.

* Recognize the participants and finalist design teams for their creativity, innovation and application of sustainable site design.

* Prepare contestants for potential upcoming regulations requiring low impact development techniques by giving them an open forum to explore ideas and design methods that strive to accelerate the implementation of innovative low impact development technologies.

What is an LID Design Competition?

Teams of engineers, architects, landscape architects will work together to develop an innovative, sustainable, and economic stormwater design solution for up to three sites in the Green Country region of northeast Oklahoma.

What are the Benefits for Design Professionals?

As a design professional, the competition will give you the opportunity to network with other professionals, become educated in LID design principles, provide a chance at winning a substantial cash prize in each design category, and the potential for working with a developer on a future project in Green Country.

What are the Benefits for Developers?

As a developer, the competition will give you the opportunity to work with and evaluate dozens of different ideas on how LID techniques can be implemented on various types of developments to help reduce peak flows, prevent flash flooding, drastically reduce infrastructure on site, improve water quality and ultimately reduce overall development costs.

Why Should I Sponsor this Competition?

As a sponsor, your business and services will be publicized to the design and development professionals throughout Green Country and you will establish your company as a supporter of environmentally friendly development practices. If you are interested in sponsoring, please contact Graham Brannin, Fundraising Committee chair, at GBrannin at cityoftulsa.org<mailto:GBrannin at cityoftulsa.org>.

LID Research and Innovation Symposium

The Green Country LID Design Competition Finals Event will be the highlight of a multi-day LID Research and Innovation Symposium that will occur from April 2-4, 2014 in Green Country. Sponsorships will include some great opportunities for exposure during the conference.

To make the Low Impact Development Design Competition successful and to encourage the highest caliber of professionals to compete, we anticipate awarding the winning design teams up to $15,000 in prize money in each design category. If your organization finds value in demonstrating that Low Impact Development can provide an ecological and economically sustainable alternative to traditional development techniques, please consider being a sponsor or partner with another organization to become a co-sponsor. All donations will be handled through the Oklahoma Chapter of the US Green Building Council<http://www.usgbc.org/chapters/oklahoma-chapter>. Donations used as prize money are tax deductible and may be in the form of multiple payments over time until the design competition finals in April 3, 2014. Sponsors will receive valuable benefits that are listed in the attached "sponsor" pdf.
