FPI Hosts Foodservice Packaging Webinar Featuring Panel of MRF Operators
Falls Church, Virginia (August 1, 2013)
The Foodservice Packaging Institute (FPI) invites all interested stakeholders to join its second in a series of webinars on increasing the recovery of foodservice packaging. As FPI’s Paper Recovery Alliance and Plastics Recovery Group continue their work to break down barriers to recovering more cups, containers, boxes and bags used at restaurants and other eating establishments, each material’s suitability within a material recovery facility (MRF) is an essential question to tackle.
During the one-hour webinar scheduled for August 20th at 1:00 Eastern Time, a national panel of MRF and recycling officials will tackle key questions regarding these materials in their facilities: Is there sufficient quantity? Can the specifications of each material be communicated to the public? How much residue can be expected? How does each material behave in a MRF environment? What markets exist? This will be an unscripted, honest discussion about opportunities and obstacles based on real world experience, sure to be of benefit to communities and MRFs as they consider adding foodservice packaging to their recycling systems.
At the same time, FPI will also share an overview of a how increased recovery of foodservice packaging affects the existing marketable bales. According to Lynn Dyer, FPI president, “We’re working across the supply and recovery chain to clearly understand what it would mean to MRFs and end markets if they accept more foodservice packaging. Based on the research we’ve done, we are able to quantify the effects of successful recovery, and we think the recovery markets will be interested in that information.”
To participate in this webinar, simply register at https://www4.gotomeeting.com/register/766020351<https://gq979.infusionsoft.com/app/linkClick/1121/4ab5146aded720ba/9559/6ccf1d5741ec495a>. There is no cost, but space is limited.
Looking ahead, this fall FPI will host another webinar, which will focus on markets for recovered foodservice packaging materials. It will again be open to the public, and attendees will learn the results of ongoing research to identify, engage and map existing and potential markets for these valuable materials.
