OKLAHOMA ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY AND BORAL BRICKS EXEMPLIFY COMMITMENT TO LANDFILL GAS CONTROL OEMA AND BORAL BRICKS WIN SWANA 2012 EXCELLENCE AWARD

Union City/El Reno, OK – The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), is pleased to announce that Oklahoma Environmental Management Authority and Boral Bricks were awarded the SWANA Bronze Excellence Award in Landfill Gas Control. The award will be presented at SWANA’s annual national conference, WASTECON, on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, in Washington, D.C.

OEMA and Boral Bricks were presented SWANA’s Excellence Award for the success of its Landfill Gas Control System. The components of this design/build project included engineering, design, permitting, and construction of collection and transfer systems for extraction of landfill gas (LFG) from the Oklahoma Environmental Management Authority (OEMA) Landfill and delivery of that gas to the Boral Bricks manufacturing facility.

Oklahoma Environmental Management Authority was established in 1971 as a Title 60 Public Trust. The purpose of OEMA is to plan, establish, maintain and operate a solid waste disposal system that will prevent pollution of the air, water and general environment.

Sustainable design and building practices are of the highest priority for Boral Bricks. Clay brick products are an excellent choice for sustainable home design, and Boral Bricks is an industry leader in the areas of sustainable manufacturing and alternative fuels development. Boral was responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance and any future expansion of the system components for this award winning project. By using methane as an energy resource, Boral has relieved the Union City landfill of the challenging responsibility of methane gas disposal.

“We are honored to receive this prestigious award,” commented David Griesel, General Manager of Oklahoma Environmental Management Authority. “OEMA values the partnership with Boral Bricks, they are a tremendous benefit to the area and our environment.”

SWANA’s Excellence Awards Program recognizes outstanding solid waste programs and facilities that advance the practice of environmentally and economically sound solid waste management through their commitment to utilizing effective technologies and processes in system design and operations, advancing worker and community health and safety, and implementing successful public education and outreach programs. Programs also must demonstrate that they are fiscally and environmentally responsible through their compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations.
