Special Webinar and Capitol Hill Event: Green Job Creation Through Recycling

The BlueGreen Alliance, Tellus Institute, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA), Recycling Works, and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) extend an invitation to you to join two exciting events coming in November on the subject of job creation within the recycling industry.



First, on Thursday, November 10th, at 10:00 AM PST / 1:00 PM EST, a webinar will be held about a new report entitled More Jobs, Less Pollution: Growing the Recycling Economy in the U.S. The webinar will be moderated by Lee Anderson, Policy Analyst with the BlueGreen Alliance, and will include presentations by James Goldstein with the Tellus Institute, the author of the report; Allen Hershkowitz, Director of NRDC's Solid Waste Management Program; Bob Morales, Director of the Teamsters' Solid Waste & Recycling Division; and Monica Wilson from GAIA.



This report shows that, by increasing our national waste diversion rate to 75%, the U.S. can create over one million new jobs by 2030. From collection to processing to re-manufacturing, the recycling process can not only conserve our natural resources but provide economic benefits for our nation as well.  As recycling coordinators, you are uniquely positioned to help in the effort to increase that waste diversion rate and create jobs.



Second, on Tuesday, November 15th, from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM EST, the organizations who sponsored this report will also host an event to celebrate America Recycles Day on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., bringing together leaders from government, labor, environmental and industrial organizations to move the discussion of recycling and job creation to the national stage.  You are invited to attend to hear from people working in all aspects of the industry speak on how to increase economic opportunity and environmental responsibility through greater recycling efforts.
