A Local Food Fair will be held July 14 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at
Harn Homestead located just south of the State Capitol at 1721 N.
Lincoln. Event chair, Stephanie Jordan, announced, "The main goal of
this event is to get people to think about where their food comes from
and the impact that the answer to that question has on their health,
their local economy and the flavor of the food itself." Sponsored by
Central Oklahoma Chapter of Buy Fresh Buy Local and Sierra Club Cimarron
Group, admission is free to the public.

Seventeen local food vendors will be on hand to showcase and sell their
products sold regularly at area farmers' markets and/or through the
Oklahoma Food Cooperative. (Please bring your own shopping bag to
reduce waste.) Members of sponsoring groups will prepare and provide
free samples of each vendor's items. Attendees will be able to taste
such foods as lamb stew, buffalo burgers, tabouli, capreze salad,
roasted garlic, deviled eggs, and much more, all made with Oklahoma
ingredients. Copies of food recipes utilized will be available as well
and Oklahoma wine and beer will be set-up for sampling purposes.

Representatives of several non-profits including Oklahoma Food Coop,
Closer to the Earth (will be collecting composting from event), Sierra
Club Cimarron Group, Central Oklahoma Chapter of Buy Fresh Buy Local and
Transition Town, and more will be available to talk with anyone who is
interested in learning more about sustainable living or getting involved
with their organization.

In addition, Fenton Rood & friends will entertain with bluegrass and
folk songs throughout the evening. Touring the Harn Homestead gardens
and historical buildings will also be free during the Local Food Fair.
